I have some friends who have a Scotty terrier and they often told me the antic stories of their boy "Chester". I ran into them recently and they told me they have a new addition to their "family", another Scotty. I said "well, the new addition is probably giving Chester a run for his money, right"? And they said "no, the two don't even play together". They then proceeded to tell me that the new addition is 12 years old. Seems they had gone into the local SPCA just to have a look around, and when they saw him and learned his age, they also knew no one would adopt him. They just couldn't leave him there. So they took him home. He is doing fine and he is healthy and no he won't play with Chester, but they get along O.K.. At least a mutual respect for each others space. And I came away from that conversation having a whole new level of respect for my friends and the VERY nice thing they did for that very lucky 12 year old Scotty Terrier.

Not all dogs get along with other dogs. And each rescue may have a few issues. But all in all, most are just dogs that are in need of an owner to love and to care for them.

Sandy Peterman

Hello,

I am seeking help for an 8yr old male neutered JRT in Michigan.  Our organization placed this boy when he was a year old with a Brother in a Catholic Monastery in Detroit.  The Monastery is being closed in the next few weeks and none of the Brothers are able to take a dog to where they are being relocated.

Mickey has lived with adult men, ages 75-85 yrs, since adopted.  Therefore he has not been socialized with cats, other dogs or children.  He is fine with adults, men and women, but the veterinarian of record tells me that he is sensitive about his feet and is muzzled for vet exams.  Since our public adoption showings are visited by children, it is not a venue to show this dog.  I have made attempts for 2 mos to find another option for Mickey but truthfully no one wants to take him on as there are so many other dogs that do not have these types of issues.

We are a non-euthanasia organization and always take our pets back.  We have been unable to take Mickey back due to not having a foster home without other pets or children.  We do not wish to tell a Brother of the Catholic Order that he needs to euthanize a healthy animal.  (Mickey is current on vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention and has always been cared for properly)

Do you have any advice or suggestions for us?
